The “All-Domain Mobile Station” Opens Up a New Living Space for Explorers

[Guangzhou, October 15, 2026] The MONTX V10 concept vehicle from GAC Commercial Vehicle’s MONTX brand has won the European Product Design Award (EPDA). Following MONTX’s overseas debut at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 in Hannover, the award marks another important recognition for the brand on the international stage. With its futuristic functional-aesthetic body design, innovative Quad-Opening Tailgate, modular reconfigurable cabin, and sliding steer-by-wire steering wheel that allows the steering position to shift between left- and right-hand-drive configurations, the V10 offers a new solution for digital nomads and people who embrace multifaceted outdoor lifestyles as an “All-Domain Mobile Station.”

Established in 2016, the European Product Design Award (EPDA) is an international product design award open to designers, design teams, and students worldwide. It honors product and industrial designers from around the world whose practical, thoughtfully considered designs improve everyday life, and aims to advance product design globally. Its jury, which includes independent designers, design education experts, and other professionals, evaluates entries against criteria such as innovation, aesthetics, and practicality.

The MONTX V10 was conceived to address a structural gap in the traditional van market. Many conventional vans are converted from light passenger vehicles, resulting in bulky styling and conservative designs, with few options tailored to younger users. At the same time, the spread of remote work has given rise to lifestyles that combine mobile work across regions with extended stays outdoors. Yet existing vehicles struggle to meet the combined needs for rugged off-road capability, professional mobile work, and long-term stays in the wilderness. The V10 responds with two differentiating innovations. First, All-Domain Aesthetics: clean, precisely cut geometric surfaces and a squared, substantial body create a rugged, minimalist, futuristic look. Second, All-Domain Adaptability: strong off-road performance is paired with comprehensive support and home-like comfort for extended outdoor living.

In design, the V10 carries forward the design language of the GAC PICKUP01, giving it a distinctive identity that sets it apart from look-alike recreational vehicles. Its squared body and high-riding, rugged stance draw inspiration from Blade Runner 2049, bringing together modern technology, retro references, and an apocalyptic adventure aesthetic. The sharply squared body resembles a precision-cut piece of industrial metal. Minimalist geometric contours, clearly defined surfaces, and industrial details create a strong, solid visual presence. Its cab-forward, one-box form maximizes interior space. With the wheels positioned at the four corners, the V10’s raised stance improves ground clearance and off-road capability, while a gently sloping rear roofline creates a sense of forward motion. The sculpted front lights and hollowed-out rear lights contrast with the clean body surfaces to create a distinctly geometric look. A removable down-filled cushion on the outside of the tailgate sets soft furnishings against the hard-edged body. The low-saturation, premium sci-fi silver-gray finish is paired with matte-black off-road protection components, balancing practical dirt resistance for outdoor use with a cool, high-tech aesthetic.

Functionally, the V10 uses a range of industry-first design features to reimagine mobile outdoor space, combining off-road performance, support for extended stays, and adaptability to different scenarios in an integrated “All-Domain Mobile Station.” Its three-zone cabin is organized into driving and control, work and living, and storage and washing zones. The modular design lets the space shift between work and rest. In the middle section, a foldable worktable, folding seats, built-in lounge seating, and deployable rest modules create a reconfigurable cabin. In the morning, it becomes a mobile office: the screen rises and the table and seats unfold for remote meetings. In the evening, it becomes a social lounge: the seats return to position and a small table unfolds for meals with friends. Late at night, the fixed furnishings fold away to create a comfortable sleeping cabin. Even during stays lasting several weeks or months, users can maintain their usual work and social routines without feeling bored or confined, helping reduce the psychological strain that can accompany extended stays in the wilderness.

Another pioneering feature of the V10 cabin is its sliding steer-by-wire steering wheel, which allows the steering position to switch between left- and right-hand-drive configurations. The steering-wheel module moves laterally along a rail across the dashboard with stepless adjustment, allowing it to be positioned on either side as needed. When the vehicle is parked, the wheel can slide to one side, fully opening the passage between the front seats and the living area.

The V10 also makes opening the vehicle part of the overall experience. Its innovative Quad-Opening Tailgate combines a fold-down step platform, a pair of central equipment-access doors that open outward to either side, and a separately raised overhead canopy. When opened, these elements form a work surface, an equipment cabinet, and a sunshade. The design turns structural complexity into a clear, orderly spatial arrangement with a sense of occasion. As the Quad-Opening Tailgate unfolds like a stage curtain, it also dissolves the boundary between the vehicle and the outdoors.

The V10 is designed for destinations that invite exploration. To support use in extreme environments, it adopts a highly integrated engineering approach. The rear equipment zone incorporates a water-and-oxygen recirculation system and an oxygen supply unit designed to support safe stays at altitudes above 4,500 meters. Together with a waste-disposal system, these features support extended stays in the wilderness.

Alongside its robust performance, the V10 also considers the sustainable use of materials. Its interior uses a rigid aluminum-alloy frame, and all vehicle modules can be disassembled and replaced or recycled in full. The removable, waterproof down-filled pad on the outside of the tailgate can be used, once removed, as a moisture-resistant ground mat or a warm seat cushion. It sets the softness of outdoor equipment against the toughness of the metal body in striking contrast.
